This thesis describes the use of dietary supplements (DS) (including herbs) by persons with dementia and the risk related to their use, as DS may cause adverse effects. It further describes the awareness ... -
Signals of Death - Post-Diagnostic Single Gene Expression Trajectories in Breast Cancer - A Proof of Concept
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2020-12-08)Using the time-dependent dynamics of gene expression from immune cells in blood, we aimed to explore single gene expression trajectories as biomarkers for death after a diagnosis of breast cancer introducing a new statistical method denoted Difference in Time Development Statistics (DTDS). This shows as proof of principle that the gene expression profiles from immune cells in blood differed in the ... -

T-score, age, menopausal status (for females), remaining teeth, and periodontal status were analyzed in linear and logistic regression analyses as ... -
Crisis Management in Norwegian Nursing Homes During the Covid-19 Pandemic: Pragmatism and Performativity
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-09-22)Background: The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020 imposed a severe crisis on nursing homes in Norway. Despite criticism in evaluations pointing to inadequate preparedness, nursing homes managed to keep infection and mortality rates low. Enhanced knowledge of crisis management in the aftermath of a crisis is important for preparedness and future crisis management and can contribute to ... -
Consequences of the pandemic for CAM therapists and their patients
(Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2022)In March 2020, the Norwegian authorities decided to shut down the country to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The lockdown of society resulted in many healthcare workers having to close their practice or comply with a requirement of two meters distance between patients and providers, and consultations of a maximum of 15 minutes. This also applied to the CAM providers. In collaboration with ... -
Nurses’ experiences of informal coercion on adult psychiatric wards
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-01-03)Background: Informal coercion, that is, situations where caregivers use subtle coercive measures to impose their will on patients, is common in adult psychiatric inpatient care. It has been described as ‘a necessary evil’, confronting nurses with an ethical dilemma where they need to balance between a wish to do good, and the risk of violating patients’ dignity and autonomy.

Aim: To describe ... -
Mortality and alcohol-related morbidity in patients with delirium tremens, alcohol withdrawal state or alcohol dependence in Norway: A register-based prospective cohort study
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-07-19)Background and Aims: Little is known about long-term consequences of delirium tremens (DT). This study aimed to compare all-cause and cause-specific mortality and alcohol-related morbidity between patients with: (i) DT, (ii) alcohol withdrawal state (AWS) and (iii) alcohol dependence (AD). Design: A national longitudinal health registry study with linked data from the Norwegian Patient Registry ... -
Primary intraosseous carcinoma arising in a dentigerous cyst: A case report
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-09-06)Dentigerous cysts are among the most common cysts of the jaw. They are attached to the crown of an unerupted tooth, most frequently third molars and maxillary canines. They are often asymptomatic and may therefore be diagnosed late. We report a case of a primary intraosseous carcinoma arising from the wall of a dentigerous cyst and describe the expression of typical genes associated with tumour ... -
CALCOCO1 is a soluble reticulophagy receptor
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-07-25)The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is the largest membrane-bound organelle in eukaryotic cells and plays critical roles in diverse processes in metabolism, signaling and intracellular organization. In response to stress stimuli such as nutrient deprivation, accumulation of misfolded proteins or exposure to chemicals, the ER increases in size through upregulated synthesis of its components to counteract ... -
Capture of a novel, antibiotic resistance encoding, mobile genetic element from Escherichia coli using a new entrapment vector
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-03-01)
Aims Antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) are often associated with mobile genetic elements (MGEs), which facilitate their movement within and between bacterial populations. Detection of mobility is therefore important to understand the dynamics of MGE dissemination and their associated genes, especially in resistant clinical isolates that often have multiple ARGs associated with MGEs. ... -
Chapter 11 - Hydrogels as intrinsic antimicrobials
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2019-10-25)Hydrogels are currently applied as the vehicles for drugs or active substances, rather than the active contributors to therapeutic activities. With increasing challenges related to antimicrobial resistance against many antibiotics, natural origin hydrogels have become attractive as more than just vehicles. Although many natural polymers exhibit intrinsic antimicrobial properties, these properties ... -
