  • Inhibition of ABCC5-mediated cGMP transport by progesterone, testosterone and their analogues

Odland, Sondre Ulstein; Ravna, Aina Westrheim; Smaglyukova, Natalia; Dietrichs, Erik Sveberg; Sager, Georg (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-07-13)
The biodynamics and biokinetics of sex hormones are complex. In addition to the classical steroid receptors (nuclear receptors), these hormones act through several non-genomic mechanisms. Modulation of ABC-transporters by progesterone represents a non-genomic mechanism. In the present study, we employed inside out vesicles from human erythrocytes to characterize high affinity cGMP transport by ABCC5 ...

  • Estimated lifetime risk of venous thromboembolism in men and women in a Danish nationwide cohort: impact of competing risk of death

Arnesen, Carl Arne Løchen; Veres, Katalin; Horváth-Puhó, Erzsébet; Hansen, John-Bjarne; Sørensen, Henrik Toft; Brækkan, Sigrid K. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-11-08)
Incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk varies by age and sex. Some studies have reported overall higher risk in men, especially when VTEs triggered by female reproductive factors are excluded. However, higher mortality rates in men may have led to overestimation of lifetime VTE risk in men compared with women. Therefore, we estimated the lifetime risk of VTE in men and women in a Danish, ...

  • Spared performance but increased uncertainty in schizophrenia: Evidence from a probabilistic decision-making task

Kreis, Isabel Viola; Zhang, Lei; Moritz, Steffen; Pfuhl, Gerit (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021)
Aberrant attribution of salience to in fact little informative events might explain the emergence of positive symptoms in schizophrenia and has been linked to belief uncertainty. Uncertainty is thought to be encoded by neuromodulators, including norepinephrine. However, norepinephrinergic encoding of uncertainty, measured as task-related pupil dilation, has rarely been explored in schizophrenia. ...
